We Were Liar Movie – TV Serie Guide and Sea on 2 New

A psychological thriller set against the backdrop of a wealthy family’s private island, We Were Liars has captured the attention of both book fans and new viewers. But confusion persists: is it a movie or a television series? And where can you watch it? Here is everything you need to know about the adaptation of E. Lockhart’s bestselling novel.

The series premiered on Amazon Prime Video on June 18, 2025, and has already been renewed for a second season. With a dedicated fan base and a story that keeps audiences guessing, it is worth understanding exactly what this production entails—and what is coming next.

Is We Were Liars a Movie or a TV Series?

We Were Liars is a television series, not a movie. The adaptation unfolds across eight episodes in its first season, each building the mystery of the Sinclair family’s summer on Beechwood Island. The format allows the story to develop at a measured pace, staying true to the novel’s layered narrative.

• We Were Liars is a TV series adaptation of E. Lockhart’s 2014 novel, not a standalone film.
• The first season premiered on Amazon Prime Video on June 18, 2025.
• Critical reception has been positive, with particular praise for its faithfulness to the source material and the performances.
• As of 2026, the series has been officially renewed for Season 2, which is scheduled to film from June to October 2026.
• The cast features a blend of rising stars and experienced actors, led by Emily Alyn Lind as Cadence Sinclair Eastman.
• Season 2 will be based on the prequel novel Family of Liars by E. Lockhart.

When Is the Release Date of We Were Liars?

Season 1 of We Were Liars was released on June 18, 2025, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. All eight episodes dropped at once, allowing viewers to binge the entire mystery.

Season 2 does not yet have a confirmed release date, but a timeline is emerging. According to TV Insider, the new season is scheduled to film from June to October 2026. Given that post-production for a series of this nature typically takes several months, a release in 2027 appears to be the earliest realistic window. If Prime Video follows the same pattern as Season 1, a summer 2027 premiere is the most likely outcome.
