Ben Affleck is among the most recognizable figures in Hollywood, having built a career that spans acting, directing, and screenwriting. Born on August 15, 1972, in Berkeley, California, he first gained widespread attention for co-writing and starring in Good Will Hunting alongside childhood friend Matt Damon. Over the years, he has won multiple Academy Awards, portrayed Batman in the DC Extended Universe, and remained a constant subject of public fascination—both for his film work and his personal life.
Raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Affleck began acting as a child, appearing in the PBS series The Voyage of the Mimi and the independent film The Dark End of the Street. His mother was a school teacher and his father a social worker; the couple divorced when Affleck was young. He met Matt Damon at age eight, and their friendship later led to one of the most celebrated screenwriting successes in modern cinema.
Today, Affleck continues to act, produce, and direct. His 2026 Netflix film The Rip reunited him with Damon, and he recently sold his AI company, InterPositive, to the streaming giant. For readers interested in another major Hollywood star, see Brad Pitt: Biography and Movies.
