Reading Wire respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects its users and contributors to do the same. This Copyright & Takedown Policy outlines our approach to using images, media, and other copyrighted material on readingwire.co.uk, and explains the process for submitting a takedown or correction request if you believe your work has been used inappropriately.
Our approach to images and media
We take care to ensure that all images, videos, and other media published on Reading Wire are used lawfully and ethically. Our editorial team sources visual content through the following channels:
- Licensed images: We purchase or subscribe to stock photography and media libraries for general illustrative use.
- Press images and official promotional materials: We use images provided by publicists, PR agencies, rights holders, and official sources for news and editorial coverage, typically under implied licence for journalistic purposes.
- Embedded public posts: We may embed publicly available social media posts (e.g. from X, Instagram, YouTube) that contain images or video, in accordance with platform terms of service.
- Original photography: Our own staff or commissioned photographers may produce original images, which are credited accordingly.
- Proper crediting: Wherever possible, we attribute the source, creator, or rights holder of an image or media file. This includes captions, alt text, and metadata where appropriate.
Before publishing any image or media, our editorial team conducts a rights assessment. This includes verifying the licence, confirming permission for editorial use, and checking that the material does not infringe third-party copyright. If we are unable to establish a clear right to use an image, we will not publish it.
