Tip Us

We rely on our readers to help us uncover the stories that matter. If you have information, a document, a tip or a lead that you believe is in the public interest, we want to hear from you. readingwire.co.uk is committed to rigorous, independent journalism, and your tip could be the start of an important investigation or a timely news story.

What makes a good tip

A strong tip is specific, verifiable and relevant to our audience in the United Kingdom. We are particularly interested in:

  • Breaking news — events unfolding now that affect British readers, from major incidents to urgent political developments.
  • Public-interest stories — matters of significant public concern, including potential wrongdoing, safety issues, consumer rights, environmental impact or misuse of public funds.
  • Political developments — policy changes, parliamentary business, government decisions, party politics and local governance that have national implications.
  • Business news — corporate activity, market shifts, regulatory changes, employment issues and economic trends affecting UK consumers and industries.
  • Tech stories — innovation, data privacy, cybersecurity, digital policy and the impact of technology on British society and daily life.
  • Cultural events and entertainment news — stories about the arts, film, television, music, theatre, literature and celebrity culture that resonate with UK audiences, including industry developments and cultural controversies.

We do not publish rumours, speculation or unverified claims. Every tip is assessed on its potential to inform the public and on the strength of the evidence provided.

  • What — a clear description of the event, issue or information you are sharing.
  • When — dates, times or timelines relevant to the story.
  • Where — locations, jurisdictions or specific places.
  • Materials — any supporting documents, images, videos, audio recordings, emails, data or other evidence. Please do not send original documents unless we request them.
  • On or off the record — please state clearly whether you are speaking on the record (your name and details can be used), on background (your information can be used but not your identity) or off the record (the information is for our understanding only and will not be published). We will respect your wishes and discuss any use of your identity before publication.

How we verify tips

Our Standards & Fact-Checking Desk, led by Thomas Ellery, is responsible for verifying every tip we pursue. We follow a strict process of source verification, cross-referencing and evidence review before any story is published. You can read more about our approach in our Sources & Standards policy and our Fact-Checking Policy.

We never present rumours as facts. If we cannot verify a claim to our editorial standards, we will not publish it. We may contact you for further information or clarification as part of our verification process.

Confidentiality and data protection

We take your confidentiality seriously. If you wish to remain anonymous, please tell us at the outset. We will not share your identity or contact details without your explicit consent, except where required by law. For any concerns about data handling, please contact legal@readingwire.co.uk. Our full data practices are set out in our Privacy Policy.

What happens after you submit

We aim to acknowledge receipt of your tip within five working days. Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we cannot guarantee a personal response to every tip, but we read and assess each one carefully. If we decide to pursue your story, a member of our editorial team will contact you. You can also follow up via our Contact page.

Corrections

If you believe we have published an error in connection with a tip or any other story, please send details to corrections@readingwire.co.uk. Our corrections process is outlined in our Corrections Policy.
